The tomb of King Tutankhamun is located in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile in 卢克索. It is the most famous tomb ever because it was found intact in 1922 by the archaeologist Howard Carter.
King Tutankhamun is one of the kings of the 18th dynasty during the New Kingdom. King Tut ruled Egypt after the death of his father, King Akhenaten. He was 9 years old when he became a king until his death at the age of 19, meaning that he ruled Egypt for 10 years.
Archaeologists believe that King Tut was suffering from a disability or disease that caused his death at that young age because there is a large number of walking sticks in his tomb and some scenes of the king depicting him sitting.
The size of the tomb and the way things were placed in it made archaeologists believe that the king’s death occurred suddenly and was unexpected./
Carter discovered the tomb on26 November 1922, while excavating the tunnel leading to the tomb of King Ramses IV in the Valley of the Kings.
When Carter entered the cemetery, he found it was stacked with over 5,000 objects. When he entered the burial chamber, he found the mummy of the king placed in a pure gold coffin estimated to weigh 110 kilograms, two gilded wood coffins, a granite sarcophagus, and 4 gilded wooden shrines.
The mummy was covered with the famous golden mask that weighs 10 kilograms of pure gold and decorated with some precious stones.
In the tomb, he found the king’s throne chair, a chariot drawn by horses, some daggers, necklaces, ushabti figurines, boxes of alabaster, and toys of the king when he was young.
All these wonderful pieces were preserved in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and will be transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum for full display in one place.
