The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is located in Fustat. It is one of the largest museums in Egypt, with an area of (490,000) square meters. The museum will include 50,000 artifacts.
The idea of establishing the museum was a part of the UNESCO project in Egypt. The construction of the museum started in 2002.
The museum was officially opened on 3 April 2021 by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. In a solemn parade, 22 Egyptian mummies were transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.
These 22 mummies include 18 mummies for kings and 4 mummies for queens, like Seqenen Ra, Tuthmosis I, Tuthmosis II, Hatshepsut, Tuthmosis III, Tuthmosis IV, Amenhotep I, Amenhotep II, Amenhotep III, Seti I, Ramses II, Seti II, Ramses III, Ramses IV, Ramses V, Ramses VI, Ramses IX, Ahmose Nefertari, Merit Amun, and Queen Tiye.
The museum exhibitions will be divided into 3 halls
The 1st hall, the main hall, will display the ancient Egyptian civilization in a chronological concept through the Nile, writing, society, and material culture and beliefs.
The 2nd hall is dedicated to displaying the royal mummies, as each mummy is displayed beside its possessions and some documentaries.
The 3rd hall, which was opened in February 2017, is a temporary exhibition under the name of Egyptian crafts through different ages. This hall displays the history of 4 crafts, which are pottery, textiles, wood, and jewelry.
