Dahshur Necropolis is located on the western bank of the Nile, 40 km southwest of Cairo. It is an important part of the Memphis Necropolis, as it contains the pyramids of the kings of ancient Egypt, as well the first complete pyramid in Egypt in the ancient Egyptian civilization.
Dahshur Necropolis reflects the architectural development of the pyramids in ancient Egypt, as after the ancient Egyptian engineers constructed the Bent pyramid, they were able to build the first complete pyramid, the Red Pyramid of King Sneferu.
As a result of that, Egyptian engineers were able to build the pyramid of King Khufu (Cheops) on the Giza plateau, the great pyramid in Egypt and the only remaining one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Dahshur Necropolis is very rich in historical monuments such as the pyramids of King Amenemhat II, King Senusert III, King Amenemhat III that also known as the Black Pyramid. All of these pyramids date back to the 12th dynasty, the Middle Kingdom. In addition, many individual tombs, such as the tomb of the son of King Sneferu, Prince Kanefer, and the Vizier Sa-Iset. But the most famous of these monuments are the pyramids of King Sneferu (Bent pyramid and red pyramid) from the 4th dynasty, the old kingdom.
The Bent Pyramid:
It is the pyramid of King Sneferu, the father of King Khufu (Cheops), the founder of the 4th Dynasty. This pyramid is the connecting point between the step pyramids, the pyramid of King Djoser in Saqqara, and the complete pyramids.
In this pyramid, the ancient Egyptians tried to find the correct angle of inclination to reach the complete pyramid. At first, this pyramid was built at an angle of 54 degrees, but in the middle of the pyramid, the engineers of the pyramid changed its angle of inclination to 43 degrees, so it appears bent. This angle was used in all the complete pyramids of ancient Egypt later.
The Red Pyramid:
The pyramid of King Sneferu is located north of the Bent pyramid. It is the first complete pyramid in the ancient Egyptian civilization. It was named the Red Pyramid because the ancient Egyptian engineers used red stones in its construction.
The Black pyramid:
Pyramid of King Amenemhat III, the 12th dynasty, the middle kingdom. It is also known as the black pyramid because it is built of mud bricks. This pyramid distinguishes by the presence of labyrinths inside it to hide the burial chamber from thieves. The Bnbn, the top part of the pyramid, of this pyramid is displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
