Baron Palace is an architectural masterpiece located in the city of Heliopolis (City of the Sun). This palace was neglected for years until the Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism bought it from its owners and began to restore it in 2007. The palace was opened to the public on June 29, 2020, after it returned to its original state when it was built in the 19th century.
Who is the owner of the palace?
The owner of the palace is Baron Edward Empain. He was a Belgian engineer and businessman, who was given the title of Baron by the King of France due to his efforts in the construction of the Paris metro. Baron Empain died July 22, 1929, in Belgium, but was buried in Egypt in the Basilica Church as he willed.
Baron Edward Empain came to Egypt in 1894. He admired it and decided to stay in it. He asked the Egyptian government to establish a new city in the desert, Heliopolis, which he founded with the help of the architect Ernst Jasper. In Heliopolis, he built the first tram linking Cairo and Heliopolis.
