The history of this village:
In the beginning, this village started with a small house built on a hill. This house belonged to Mohammed Ibrahim Wali and his Tunisian wife. At first, they depended on agriculture.
In 1962 AD, this village was visited by the Egyptian poet Sayed Hegab and his wife, the Swiss potter Evelyne Porret, who admired the pottery of the residents of this village. Therefore, in the 1960s, she decided to cooperate with the Egyptian architect, Wissa Wasse.
In the 1980s, Evelyne Porret established a school for teaching the manufacture of pottery to the people of Fayoum to make pottery. So the village of Tunis became a heritage tourist destination.
Over the years, Tunis Village has become a destination for foreign and Egyptian artists and painters to live in and build their own homes because the surrounding environment has an impact on the success of their works and helps them create wonderful works of art.
Pottery Festival:
Every year in Tunis Village, a pottery festival is held in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and the Fayoum Tourism Authority to attract tourists. The celebration of this festival began in December 2011. At the festival, you will enjoy safari trips in the Fayoum desert, horse riding, and enjoying the natural scenery on the banks of Lake Qarun.
